Description
Provides legal assistance to people affected by HIV/AIDS or Hep C in HIV or Hep C related legal matters. Covers diverse areas of law such as discrimination,privacy,employment, victims compensation, minor criminal matters, immigration, superannuation, wills, powers of attorney and enduring guardianship. The Centre also undertakes Community Legal Education and trainings with Community Groups, rural outreach, law reform and policy development on issues such as Public Health laws in relation to HIV, disclosure related laws, criminal transmission of HIV, Privacy etc. Volunteers will get hands on experience in conducting client interviews, representing clients in court, generally dealing with clients from diverse socially disadvantaged backgrounds, making effective referrals to other support services, dealing with barristers/solicitors.

    Good verbal and written English
    Other Helpful skills:
    A sensitivity to people living with HIV/AIDS and Hep C is desirable. Computer Skills. Ability to work with little supervision.
    When volunteers can work:
    10 am to 6.00 pm weekdays
    How often are volunteers required to attend:
    At least 3 days a week for students and 4 days a week for PLT volunteers
    Is there a minimum commitment required:
    Yes - at least 8 weeks
